DOTD Enforcement Sergeant - Delta Weigh Station

About this Position:
The DOTD Enforcement Sergeant position is assigned to the Weight Enforcement Unit within the Department of Transportation and Development and is comprised of the fixed-scale facilities. This unit is statutorily mandated and has sole responsibility for enforcing the federal/state size weight permit registration and taxation regulations. The incumbent assigned ensures enforcement efforts promote a safe and secure driving environment while protecting and preserving vital roadway infrastructures. Commissioned personnel assigned have the same authorities statewide as sheriffs constables and police officers with respect to the enforcement of the law.
While in official capacity DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service Laws Rules Regulations as well as DOTD policies procedures manuals and directives.

Qualifications
Five years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid drivers license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.Job Specification
Job Duties:
The incumbent acts as a uniformed commissioned/POST-certified Police Officer and serves as a DOTD supervisor in an assigned static scale facility. The primary focus of the Agency is weight and size enforcement of both State and Federal Laws and must be capable of conducting advanced police skills such as investigations patrol and arrest procedures and gathering of evidence.
Provide field supervision and guidance to subordinate personnel. Ensure that the applicable rules and regulations are enforced fairly and consistently. Coordinate with the Weight Enforcement Unit Lieutenant to identify the specific goals and objectives as they pertain to the enforcement of the federal/state regulations and ensure that these goals and objectives are accomplished. The incumbent is required to meet all mandated state and departmental required POST training qualifications and certifications.
Ensure that required statistical reports time and attendance reports and other required administrative paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner. Incumbent assists train any new subordinate police officers/compliance inspectors assigned to their geographical area. The incumbent ensures all subordinate officers/compliance inspectors are briefed on departmental regulations and policies and forwards any updates of these regulations and policies to subordinates. Incumbent assigns duties to officers/compliance inspectors under his supervision and gives advice and assistance to police officers/compliance inspectors. Incumbent informs the Police Lieutenant of all pertinent information within the region or statewide area as needed. The incumbent maintains records and transmits orders given to him by the Police Lieutenant to fulfill the mission of the unit.
Incumbent will serve as the lead Agent or Investigator for any major events investigations or seizing/handling of evidence within their respective area(s) of control and report all information to the on-scene coordinator.
The incumbent prepares and distributes bi-weekly work schedules to subordinate personnel.
Conduct fair and impartial planning and evaluation sessions(PES) in accordance with DOTD policy.
Ensure that Department issued equipment is well maintained and used in a manner consistent with DOTD Policy. Ensure that required inventory and supplies are purchased and kept in stock for distribution to personnel as needed. Ensure that all monthly bills for garbage grass cutting water repairs etc. are completed in the LaCarte system.
Incumbent conducts and completes investigations as directed. The incumbent supervises subordinate personnel working knowledge of all policies procedures and practices in effect.
May be required to perform other duties as necessary including but not limited to emergency/disaster support activities.
The Incumbent in this position may be required to work shift work and maintain all annual recertification requirements as imposed by federally mandated and departmental requirements.
