You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailAs the Power Systems Commissioning Engineer you will be a key member of the team carrying out commissioning and maintenance tasks at the Marine Power Test Facility.
Reporting to the Test & Trials Manager you will be primarily responsible for the planning pre-commissioning commissioning and documenting of facility infrastructure as well as new equipment and systems to be tested safely to defined instructions in preparation for hand-over to the test team. The role will also require ongoing maintenance of power system equipment.
Key responsibilities will include:
To carry out switching operations and the operation of permit to work sanction to test and access limitation systems on large projects.
Produce and maintain documentation to the required standards.
Installation and checking of all cabling switchboards circuit breakers contactors transformers UPS batteries/systems generators motors and variable speed drives.
Commissioning and full integration of switchgear (including primary and secondary injection) on power system protection schemes including digital protection relays and AVRs. Service and fault finding on superseded equipment including air oil and vacuum insulated equipment.
Commissioning of PC/PLC related protection and power management systems including their associated software. Tuning and fault finding and setting to work in conjunction with customers and Generator suppliers.
To produce as commissioned documentation in accordance with independently audited Company Quality and Safety Management Systems e.g. BS EN 18001 and Classification Societies e.g. Lloyds Register and DNV.
Maintenance of site electrical infrastructure and power system equipment to ensure the smooth running of test programs.
Maintain competence through training courses and Electronic learning in line with company policies.
Skills and Qualifications
A relevant qualification in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or significant experience in a mechanical design engineering environment.
Familiarity with IEC and marine classification society rules desirable.
Previous experience of electrical HV/LV Power Systems including switchboards converters & rotating machines (generators motors).
Must have established record of sitework & proven record of HV/LV plant and systems commissioning.
Sole British citizenship with a valid British Passport (UK Eyes only)
Possession of or being capable of obtaining SC level security clearance.
Desired Characteristics
Experienced with PC/PLC equipment.
Health and Safety trained.
Record of HV/MV training and operations.
This role involves work for customers who manage critical infrastructure; based on customer requirements it will be necessary to carry out background checks and suitability assessments (UK BPSS clearance OR UK SC clearance) as part of the hiring process.
