Overview
The Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking an AOT Area Maintenance Supervisor II for a position with the Derby team in District 9 of the Maintenance Bureau. This position is responsible for leading a team of 11 in providing the safe and efficient movement of people and goods and oversees the maintenance operations of roadways within the district. The main duties of this position revolve around winter maintenance including plowing with specialized equipment and treating roads with winter materials. Secondary activities include maintenance and supervisory work on roads bridges culverts and related properties. The incumbent will enforce proper safety practices and train employees accordingly. Candidates should have strong leadership skills in addition to considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in transportation maintenance activities.

Environmental Factors
Duties require the ability to withstand exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions. Incumbents are required to be available for considerable overtime during periods of heavy snowfall or other emergency situations. Employees may be required to report to work outside of their work schedule and must be reachable by phone. Incumbent may have a higher level of traveling outside of their assigned work location due to the nature of this position. Employees must be able to use tools and lift materials commonly used in routine maintenance work. Normal dangers associated with work on or near heavy equipment in high traffic areas hazardous materials and debris from roadside litter are present. May be exposed to blood and airborne pathogens. Hazards are always present when working on roads with moving traffic. Incumbents may be required to work in high places. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required may also have a higher level of involvement in scheduling random tests when filling in for their Transportation General Maintenance Manager. Overtime work is required particularly during the winter months and is considered a condition of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent AND five (5) or more years of highway maintenance or construction experience INCLUDING BOTH two (2) or more years of supervisory experience or as a crew leader AND one (1) season or more of operating a snowplow with a wing.
OR
Two (2) years as a Transportation Operations Technician II or higher.
A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with air brake endorsement is required.
An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
