JOB SUMMARY: Maintain a proactive integrated and dynamic asset protection loss prevention and safety programs to support Goodwills overall mission and goals by reducing or eliminating loss or damage of assets through theft dishonesty or misuse and assure a safe environment for customers and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintain asset protection loss prevention and safety at Goodwill by providing checks and balances that will ensure proper use of Goodwill assets with consistent enforcement proper use of tools and adherence to established policies and procedures.
Identify and prevent internal and external theft.
Document apprehensions and recoveries.
Conduct thorough investigations of reported and/or suspected company losses and major policy violations. This includes interviewing involved parties and witnesses collecting evidence and completion of a comprehensive investigation report and may include use of legal channels to recover any assets that have been misappropriated by Goodwills staff or customers.
Develop and maintain a relationship with local law enforcement and district attorneys offices to assist in apprehension prosecution or recovery of assets when appropriate. Testify in court or in administrative hearings as may be required.
Conduct regular asset protection integrity checks at all locations; including retail stores donation sites warehouses and/or any other areas that are owned or controlled by Goodwill.
Train on and maintain proficiency in the Point-of-Sale (POS) system to ensure sufficient monitoring in areas of potential theft and other loss vulnerability. Monitor discrepancies in the discount programs and void logs for signs of misuse or foul play.
Monitor security camera systems for all locations as a spot check for asset protection and gross violation of policy and procedures as needed.
Become fluent with the operation and functions of the security camera systems in order to research identify and collect surveillance footage as needed to investigate loss of assets or compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
Adhere to defined procedures in relation to the collection and disposal of firearms fireworks alcohol medical waste and any other dangerous materials or donations deemed too risky or illegal to resell.
Remove and issue No Trespass notifications to persons who commit theft or other criminal acts present a health and safety hazard and/or create an unsafe environment due to violent tendencies or intimidation.
Testify as a witness in any court proceeding as necessary.
Perform periodic spot checks on purchased goods inventory at stores and warehouses.
Conduct periodic integrity checks on employees.
Report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to the Senior Risk Management Director.
Perform safety audits inspections and drills to evaluate overall staff preparedness to maintaining a safe environment for employees and customerrelated to injury/illness prevention and intervention emergency natural disaster and workplace violence situations.
SECONDARY DUTIES
Assist Senior Director Deputy Director Supervisor and Investigators with others duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred but not required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQD: Valid Class C California drivers license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Specialized knowledge of asset protection/loss prevention systems procedures and techniques
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coasts mission and general company policies/procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).
Basic computer literacy.
Familiarity with proper interviewing techniques and procedures and applicable laws and penal codes. (may be learned on-the-job).
Familiarity with point of sale software and equipment (may be learned on-the-job).
Knowledge of merchandise material handling (may be learned on-the-job).

EMOTIONAL EFFORT
The job is high-demand with many deadlines requiring little or no overtime. The work environment is semi-routine with periods of high activity and many interruptions.
JOB SETTING
Work is performed in settings as varied as a climatically-controlled office to outdoor observation locations. Work is completed independently but in cooperation with all departments and locations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The job is primarily sedentary with walking and standing as is necessary to carry out the job duties. Normal lifting and/or carrying is limited to approximately 15 lbs. with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Heavier items (26 lbs. or more) are moved by using proper material handling equipment assistance from another person or by work order request.
Normal or corrected talking hearing and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform the required tasks.
