JOB SUMMARY
- The Settlements Lead ensures accurate settlement with counter parties reconciles accounts and supports month-end close activities. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with front office (trading/marketing) scheduling accounting and external counterparties.
- The ideal candidate brings strong energy industry experience particularly in midstream and trading operations and possesses deep knowledge of natural gas scheduling contracts and revenue recognition.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Typical job responsibilities of the Settlements Lead include:
- Oversee the daily settlement process for natural gas transactions including physical and financial deals capacity trades and imbalances.
- Resolve disputes related to pricing quantities tariffs or imbalances by working closely with scheduling trading contracts and commercial teams.
- Ensure timely issuance of invoices and processing of payments for all counterparties including marketers utilities and pipeline operators.
- Prepare detailed variance analyses and financial reports for management and external auditors.
- Develop and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance accuracy efficiency and scalability of settlement and accounting functions.
- Act as the subject matter expert for the ETRM and ERP systems related to natural gas settlements.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and internal financial policies.
- Support risk management efforts by ensuring proper controls and segregation of duties are in place.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Deep understanding of natural gas transportation storage trading contracts and revenue recognition
- Strong knowledge of GAAP FERC and other regulatory frameworks affecting the energy industry.
- Advanced Excel and analytical skills; ability to manage and interpret large data sets.
- Proven ability to manage complex reconciliations and resolve discrepancies across multiple counterparties and systems.
- Strong attention to detail problem-solving skills and commitment to process integrity
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work across departments and levels
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field is required.
- Experience in the energy sector preferably in natural gas marketing pipeline settlements or midstream operations.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- CPA or CMA candidate a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position is located at BKVs Denver Houston or Fort Worth office. Remote work will be considered.
- Indoor working environment that requires the ability to perform repetitive motions and operate standard office equipment.
- May occasionally be exposed to distracting noise while sharing office space with others.
- Some travel up to 10% may be required.
