WHO WERE LOOKING FOR
The Vice President Bus Operations reports directly to the Executive Deputy Chief Operating Officer. This position is responsible for all aspects of Bus Operations including maintenance RideShare Contracted Services and operations training provided by the Authority. The primary focus of this position is to ensure all bus services are performed consistent with industry best practices.
WHAT YOULL BE DOING

Oversee and direct the management personnel and coordinate the oversight of the fixed route bus and rideshare contracted service providers including contract management of service contracts quality assurance and quality control (operations and maintenance) operations cost analysis and control field operations special events data management long range fleet requirements long range capital asset plan maintenance information systems and operational use of ITS and radio systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES - SUPERVISOR AND/OR LEADERSHIP EXERCISED:
Direct and manage department personnel by planning scheduling delegating and overseeing employee work assignments authorizing coordinating and scheduling work with vendors and consultants conducting personnel actions including hiring and interviewing and overseeing hiring training work assignments and performance evaluations.
WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelors Degree in Business Administration Engineering Transportation or related field. Related experience may substitute for education on a year per year basis for up to four years.
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience to include six (6) years directing a professional staff administrative/operations experience encompassing all functional aspects associated with the operation and maintenance of a bus system.
Experience managing a mid to large size transit system or experience in a similar environment is preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of transit management and operations principles including knowledge of safety FRS maintenance paratransit scheduling dispatch field operations labor relations staff development and collective bargaining.
Excellent labor relations and negotiation skills in a union environment are essential.
Strong supervisory skills including the ability to plan and delegate work effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Team management skills to fully leverage talents of diverse people working together and conflict management to deal with complex or sensitive situations and ensure the positive image of CapMetro.
Strong business knowledge or advanced understanding of the transit industry and support of business objectives by developing integrated operational strategies and tactics.
Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
Ability to find solutions to complex interpersonal technical financial legal and administrative problems.
High level of analytical and creative ability to solve complex challenges.
Mobility Status:
As a Mobile position the incumbent is expected to work in the office as needed. There will be access to touchdown/collaboration spaces when on site. Must be in-office for socialization strategic collaboration supervision oversite and accountability as needed.
This position is based in Austin Texas. Successful out-of-state candidates must relocate to the state of Texas prior to start date and may have the opportunity to work remotely anywhere in Texas after a specified period.
