The Minnesota Discovery Center (MDC) is the museum of the Iron Range where history culture and community come together. Were looking for a detail-oriented people-focused professional to join our team as our Human Resources & Payroll Manager. As our HR & Payroll Manager youll keep the organization running smoothly by supporting our employees and managing payroll. Your work will touch every corner of MDC:
- Process bi-weekly payroll and ensure accuracy with wages benefits and deductions.
- Manage onboarding offboarding and day-to-day HR administration.
- Guide employees through benefits enrollment and HR-related questions.
- Maintain accurate personnel and payroll records while ensuring compliance.
- Support recruiting efforts and help foster a positive engaging workplace culture.
- Manage recruitment and onboarding of volunteers.
- Develop manage and interpret policies procedures and guidelines.
- Stay current and compliant with state and federal regulations as related to employment rules and regulations.
- Manage unemployment and workers compensation claims.
- Develop employee engagement wellness and appreciation events and programs.
- Administration functions for board meetings including printing board packets and taking board minutes. Posting for board vacancies and keeping board term records.
Qualifications:
- Human Resources Management degree (preferred)
- 2 years of payroll or HR experience (nonprofit experience a plus).
- Familiarity with payroll systems (ADP preferred) and HR software (BambooHR).
- Knowledge of federal and Minnesota employment laws.
- Strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and people skills approachable professional and a team player.
Working conditions:
- General office environment
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time
- Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions
- Weekdays weekends and evenings required as needed
- Full-time non-exempt position
What we offer
- Pay: $26.44 $33.65/hour (approx. $55000 $70000 annually depending on experience).
