Job Summary

Position Description


The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collectors Office is seeking an experienced dynamic and motivated Auto Deputy Lead Trainer to support the Motor Vehicle Services Division. The Auto Deputy Lead Trainer will assist the Auto Training Coordinator with leading dynamic and engaging training sessions for both new and existing auto deputy specialists while continuously assessing deputy performance.

About the Tax Assessor-Collector

The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collectors Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government handling various financial and administrative tasks including:

  • Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities.
  • Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration issue license plates and handle vehicle title transfers including the collection of associated fees.
  • Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county issue voter registration certificates and maintain an accurate voter registration roll.
  • Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees fines and revenues related to permits or state mandates depending on the countys needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Training Coordinator in designing developing planning delivering and maintaining training materials including manuals presentations videos assessments and job aids.
  • Assist the Training Coordinator in planning and delivering training sessions.
  • Support trainees by answering questions clarifying concepts and providing hands-on assistance during training activities.
  • Monitor and assess trainee progress and provide constructive feedback to trainees to help improve learning outcomes.
  • Maintain a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages participation and collaboration.
  • Aid in the evaluation of training effectiveness through surveys assessments and performance outcomes and implement solutions to effectiveness shortfalls.
  • Manage logistical aspects of training sessions such as setting up equipment and organizing resources.
  • Address trainee concerns or escalate issues to the Training Coordinator as necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal state and local transportation-related laws and regulations.
  • Maintain inventory in the training class by deleting all inventory that is voided damaged or reported missing.
  • Must be prepared to repay any personal monetary shortages incurred during daily processing and must also ensure that staff members monetary shortages are paid.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited U.S. institution.
  • At least one (1) year of paid work experience delivering training in a customer service environment preferably within automotive services with cash handling experience.
  • Proven ability to train and facilitate adult learners effectively.
  • Proficient in using PC and RTS systems with the ability to identify and resolve NMVTIS errors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent reading comprehension and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated time management and multitasking skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including early mornings late evenings weekends and extended hours as necessary.
  • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of customer and departmental information.


Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Data Entry Proficiency: Demonstrated experience and proficiency using a 10-key keypad for data entry.
  • System Experience: Proficient in using PC systems and the Registration and Title System (RTS); ability to identify and correct NMVTIS-related errors.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) rules and regulations related to vehicle registration and titling is preferred. Must stay current with all TxDMV updates to effectively support training and compliance efforts.
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Problem Solving: Strong ability to identify issues resolve problems and mediate disputes effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Must possess good vision and attention to detail to identify and correct errors in reports and documentation.
  • Multitasking: Capable of managing multiple concurrent tasks and assignments with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Administrative Expertise: Able to perform complex administrative duties independently exercising sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Time Management: Exhibits strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Flexibility: Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed including without prior notice.
  • Information Retention: Able to absorb and retain large volumes of information for long-term application.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 30 pounds to a height of 3 feet as needed.

Education & Experience:

  • Experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Cash handling experience in retail banking or similar operational settings.

General Information


Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Typically an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
  • Standard schedule 7:30 am - 4:30 pm: work hours may vary depending on workload and may include late evenings early mornings and weekends

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Minor physical effort required which may involve long periods of standing walking bending reaching stretching climbing lifting up to 30 lbs or similar activities (e.g. filing delivering sorting)
  • May require attendance at outside training seminars and/or conferences.
  • A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis.
  • Regular application of basic skills (calculator keyboard hand tools eye/hand coordination)

  • Downtown: 1001 Preston St. Houston TX 77002
  • Must be able to travel to various Auto branch locations throughout Harris County.
