Description

DIRECTOR OF NURSING SERVICES

Reports to VP of Long-Term Care Services.

Salary range $120K - $145K Commensurate with experience.

10kSIGN-ON BONUS

Duties:

Has administrative authority responsibility and accountability for the functions activities and training for nursing services.

Develops and maintains nursing objectives and standards.

Establishes nursing policies and procedures with review and updating as required for EMR.

Writes job descriptions for nursing positions and assures new employees are trained according to the description and is meeting the expectation of the position.

Performs on-going evaluation of nursing service needs and determines staff requirements.

Oversees the Education and Training Department to assure that inservicing training and nursing competencies meet regulatory and facility requirements and are completed as scheduled.

Regularly inspects nursing units to assure compliance with federal state and local regulations as well as infection control standards.

Conducts investigations as needed for employee/resident/family concerns including any NYS Department of Health Reportables.

Assists with developing and implementing any plans of correction for state survey deficiencies as well as any QAPI issues related to nursing. Maintains overall responsibility for nursing department compliance with quality of care issues that arise from annual DOH surveys.

Has direct oversight for Assistant Director of Nursing position as well as the Rehab and Neuro Unit Manager positions.

Reviews facilitys quality measures for root cause analysis and makes recommendations to Administration for any corrective action.

Participates in interview activities for prospective Nursing Department employees and makes final decision in the hiring approval or rejection.

Supervises 24-hour staffing schedules for all nursing units to assure compliance with state code guidelines for providing adequate resident care and supervision.

Works with consulting pharmacy to resolve any pharmaceutical issues as they occur as well as working under the guidance of the Pharmacy Consultant in regard to the facilitys antibiotic stewardship program.

Routinely communications with nursing supervisors and strategizes to address staffing and efficiency issues on off shifts.

Communicates with the facilitys Human Resource Department in regard to any employee disciplinary action for the nursing employees.

Retains budgetary control of supply and equipment ordering for the daily operations of the Nursing Department. Evaluates spending trends and makes recommendations for cost containment.

Is on 24-hour call rotation for advisory communication in emergencies within the Nursing Department.

Communicates routinely with Vice President of Long Term Care Services regarding any issues occurring within the nursing department including staffing employee/family complaints investigation results etc.

Prepares and submits required reports and maintains statistics as directed.

Serves as a member of:

- Leadership Management Committee - Corporate Compliance

- Medical Advisory Committee - Safety Committee

- Quality Assurance Committee

Conducts:

- Nurse Administrative Meetings 7-3 Shift Quarterly

- Quarterly Shift Meetings 3-11 and 11-7

- Task Force meetings as the need arises

Keeps current in the field of nursing through attendance at meetings conferences conventions and workshops.

Access to entire medical record of all patients/residents.

Performs duties according to the highest ethical and moral standards and in adherence with the facilitys corporate compliance plan and all applicable governing laws. Adheres to the facilitys confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) of residents and employees as necessary to perform job duties.

Performs any other duties assigned by the Vice President of Long-Term Care Services.

Qualifications

Graduate of an approved School of Nursing.

Current licensure to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with courses in nursing management or related field required preferred.

At least five years experience in supervisory capacity in a hospital or extended care facility including geriatric and/or psychiatric nursing.

Ability to organize plan and supervise nursing service personnel.

Sound judgment and high moral standards. A sincere desire to work with the aging and those with limited capacity for self-care.
