The Grounds & Maintenance Technician is responsible for general maintenance landscaping and lawn care throughout the district as described below. This position requires basic knowledge and mechanical skills across several varied trades including but not limited to plumbing electrical carpentry HVAC flooring wall repairs and mechanics. The Technician should also have a working knowledge of lawn care and basic landscaping skills. The Technician should strive to return building components and equipment to like-new condition and optimal operating condition using proper procedures parts and materials and maintain grounds to the highest level achievable. The Grounds & Maintenance must also have or be willing and able to obtain within 1 year a Massachusetts Pesticide Applicators license. He/she must become familiar with the districts Integrated Pest Management Plan as well as rules regulations and laws as they pertain to school facility and grounds maintenance. The Technician must be able to safely use both hand and power tools climb ladders and lift up to 75 pounds. Safety should always be a top plumbing repairs to sinks toilets faucets minor electrical repairsMakes carpentry repairs and builds furniture shelving repairs to equipment such as vacuum cleaners snow blowers office equipment and other machines as neededPatches and paints walls and other building componentsReplaces broken glass where practicalInstalls mirrors tack boards white boards pictures items between schools as requestedRepairs doors windows furniture and cabinetsMows lawns and athletic fields at NHSMows lawns adjacent to new Bresnahan SchoolMaintains planting beds at all schoolsMaintains courtyards at NHS & Nock/MolinMaintains fences and outbuildings including Stadium dugouts sheds up trash on grounds and empties outside trash/recycling receptaclesAssists Athletics Field Groundskeeper with Preparation and Maintenance of Athletic Fields for game HVAC Technician with preventive maintenance and repair tasksAssists contractors and service personnelAssists custodians in moving furniture and rearranging offices classrooms etcParticipates in snow and ice removal process-checks walks daily during winterReplaces stained broken or missing ceiling tilesTakes initiative to identify and correct maintenance related problemsCleans and maintains skate park bathrooms and the Fuller Fieldhouse including the bathroomsOther duties incidental to his/her assignment and/or assigned by the Head of Maintenance or Director of Opportunity EmployerNewburyport Public Schools does not discriminate in its programs activities or employment practices based on race color national origin age religion gender gender identity sexual orientation or disability.
