Hiring Range: $62670 - $75192 Annually

The Consumer Health and Food Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing the Environmental Health (EH) Supervisors of the food and non-food programs within the division. This role involves developing and implementing policies procedures and training programs to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and promoting public health. The Consumer Health and Food Safety Manager collaborates with internal teams regulatory agencies and external partners to uphold food safety standards protect consumer health and maintain brand reputation. • Develops implements and maintains food and non-food programs policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements industry standards and best practices;

• Conducts regular audits of EH Supervisors that are responsible for inspections of food facilities public and semi-public pools school physical facilities mobile home parks and vector program;

• Assists the division director with community outreach planning and implementation;

• Assists the department with higher level assignments as needed;

• Establishes quality assurance protocols and systems to monitor productivity of field staff;

• Ensures EH Supervisors and their staff address customer complaints product recalls and quality issues in a timely and effective manner;

• Develops and delivers training programs on food safety sanitation hygiene pool maintenance vector and good manufacturing practices for employees community members and professional organizations;

• Provides ongoing supervision education and mentorship to staff on current regulations industry trends and emerging issues;

• Serves as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies inspectors and auditors during inspections audits and investigations;

• Ensures timely and accurate submission of regulatory reports permits licenses and certifications required for food production and distribution;

• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to address systemic issues and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Food Science Microbiology Public Health Environmental Health Life Sciences or a related field of study as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND four years of professional level experience in coordinating monitoring administering or managing programs or specialized work unit activities.

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Four years of experience with Pima County working in public health as an environmental health supervisor or manager.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

• Registered Sanitarian in the State of Arizona or qualify for reciprocity by being registered in another State with a passing score at or above the qualification required by Arizona.

• Masters or bachelors degree in public health environmental health or science.

• Experience in environmental health.

• Supervisory experience in environmental health.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license is required at time of application. ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record. Current registration in the State of Arizona as a professional Sanitarian is required and must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. Working Conditions: Some positions may require any or all of the following: working with or in the presence of obnoxious odors; working with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals compounds or products; ascending and descending ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites; differentiating between colors.
