Job Duties:

The Department of Pediatrics at The University of Wisconsin is recruiting an exceptional Neonatology Hospitalist to join our Division of Neonatology & Newborn Nursery. We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence and interest in education as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Other Clinical responsibilities could include rotating through the Newborn Nursery.

  • Physicians hired on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

  • Clinical expectations include providing clinical care to level III and IV neonates at both the American Family Childrens Hospital (AFCH) and Meriter Hospitals.

  • Our providers participate in clinical teaching of fellows residents and medical students and support the teaching and clinical research missions of the division and department.

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is a vibrant academic department comprising more than 200 faculty members in 16 subspecialty divisions. The department promotes and enhances the health of children through outstanding clinical care exemplary education of pediatric trainees performance of cutting-edge research and vigorous advocacy. Our faculty enjoy a robust infrastructure of services as well as the opportunity to contribute to our world-class research portfolio - since 2015 the Department of Pediatrics has ranked among the Top 20 pediatrics departments receiving NIH funding according to Blue Ridge Institutes for Medical Research.

The Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery promotes the health and well-being of newborns whether they are critically ill premature or simply in need of special observation. The program works collaboratively with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine to assure a successful transition from the intrauterine environment. The divisions mission includes education of trainees opportunities for continuing education and advancing the field through basic clinical and translational research. It oversees an active program in studying the use of simulation for training NICU providers including mannikin virtual reality point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and other creative teaching methods. Research interests include nutrition and iron metabolism in neonates corticosteroid metabolites in extremely low birth weight neonates chronic lung disease neonatal vision surfactant delivery methods for respiratory distress syndrome perinatal brain injury monitoring kidney function with near-infrared spectroscopy guiding newborn resuscitation using telemedicine and using artificial intelligence to enhance neonatal care. Its close partners include the UW Health Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center whose experts care for unborn babies with fetal conditions during pregnancy and Pediatric Cardiology whose experts specialize in treating infants with complex congenital heart disease. The division participates in the Vermont Oxford Network Childrens Hospital Neonatal Consortium and the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care further demonstrating the divisions dedication to collaboration and continuous improvement in neonatal care.

Madison is the second largest city in the state with a city population of approximately 280000 and a regional population of over 1 million. The city is within easy driving distance of Chicago and Milwaukee. Compensation:

Negotiable 12 month

Required Qualifications:

  • Board certification or board eligibility in Pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics is required by appointment start date.

  • Completion of an ACGME-approved pediatric residency program is required by appointment start date.

  • Certification in NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) is required by appointment start date.

  • The candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.

  • Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on the CHS or CT Track candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS or CT Track.

  • Certification in PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).

Education:

MD DO or equivalent is required
