Job Summary

Production Welder

Shift: Monday through Thursday 3:30pm to 2:00am

A production welder is a professional who uses various welding equipment and methods to join metal pieces or repair metal components. Some of the common duties and responsibilities of a welder are:

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints drawings and specifications to plan layout and procedures.
  • Determining the appropriate weld settings and methods based on requirements and materials.
  • Setting up components for welding according to specifications and safety standards.
  • Operating manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical horizontal or overhead).
  • Aligning clamping and securing metal parts before welding.
  • Welding components using different techniques such as TIG MIG.
  • Inspecting welded surfaces to discover flaws and ensure quality.
  • Maintaining and cleaning welding equipment and tools.

To be a successful welder one needs to have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a welder in a relevant field or industry must take a weld test to determine skill and placement.
  • Some knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties.
  • Ability to read and follow technical documents and instructions.
  • Skill in using various welding equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Attention to safety detail and accuracy.
  • Physical strength stamina and dexterity.
  • Professional certification (e.g. AWS welding certificate) or completion of an apprenticeship program is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum physical requirements include lifting moderate weight up to 50lbs standing for long periods.
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
