GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


This position plans and conducts recreational activities for residents living at the Wyoming Life Resource Center (WLRC) in Lander WY. These activities include personalized programs at our aquatic center and recreational facility in addition to recreational activities across campus.

WLRC currently has an Intermediate Care Facility and a newly constructed Skilled Nursing Facility - the first of its kind in the nation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.


  • Assist in planning coordinating and supervising recreational programs and activities ensuring that programs and activities are developed and adapted to meet the individual needs of the resident(s).
  • Set-up and prepare facilities for scheduled recreational activities inspecting equipment and facilities for cleanliness and safety. This includes the aquatic area gym weight room sensory room and other group locations.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities participation incidents and notation in ERH and/or team members.
  • Work with supervisor maintenance and licensed pool operator monitoring and maintaining pool and spa areas including checking daily chemical levels monthly water tests put on covers and maintaining cleanliness and safety of aquatic area and locker rooms.
  • Assist in promotion and marketing of recreational activities and groups includes scheduling of residents and activities communicating with direct care staff and day program sites.
  • Lead activities and groups working with staff and residents to ensure understanding and safety. Work with residents and staff to ensure resident enjoyment and participation.
  • Maintain all training requirements for licensure certification and agency.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to assisting with resident personal care behavior interventions support of staff and providing emergency first aid.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference may be given to candidates who have one or more years of experience leading aquatic and/or recreational activities. Activities Coordinator certification is preferred but not required.

**Lifeguard certification or the ability to obtain lifeguard certification is required within six (6) months of hire date.


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills to connect with individuals of different abilities ages and backgrounds fostering an inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Provide customer service resolving issues that arise and maintaining a positive relationship with residents.
  • Ability to use Professional Crisis Management (PCM) and/or other agency approved training to limit and address behavior concerns.
  • Ability to provide first aid in emergency situations.
  • Strong communication organizational and written skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate individuals in groups.
  • Physical fitness ability to swim and work in challenging environments pushing trolleys out of water up a ramp.
  • Knowledge and understanding of WLRC policies safety procedures working with individuals with disabilities traumatic brain injuries and mental health challenges.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents including those who may display challenging behaviors.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreation therapy)
OR
Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Recreation Therapy)

Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in recreation therapy)

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
None

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Ability to lift twist bend kneel push and pull while working with people with multiple and severe disabilities.
  • Must be able to swim and maintain lifeguard certification.
  • Ability to monitor sounds noises location of residents etc. to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
  • Ability to work in high-stress situations.

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • The Wyoming Life Resource Center participates in E-Verify.
