The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music Director of Bands Tenure-Track position.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Serve as Director of Bands and Conductor of the Wind Symphony. Supervise and guide all aspects of the band program; support marching band curriculum and instruction. Teach courses in conducting and related areas at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Actively recruit and retain talented undergraduate and graduate students by actively seeking conducting engagements at the All-City All-Region and All-State levels visiting high school band programs across the state and by maintaining active communication and collegiality with the Texas band community. Engage in regular performances of standard repertoire for full and chamber-sized wind ensembles both on and off campus. Engage in innovative professional activities for artistic development and tenure-track progression. Contribute to the growth and development of the Department of Music the College of Liberal Arts the University and the profession through participation in committees departmental activities and other service. Maintain positive relations with UTA band alumni and their musical programs Other related duties may be assigned based on the candidates qualifications and the needs of the department.
Required Qualifications
Doctor of Musical Arts ( DMA ) or equivalent in Conducting or a related field by the time of appointment Demonstrated excellence in teaching conducting at the graduate and undergraduate levels Demonstrated success in teaching at the college or public-school level Demonstrated ability to connect with area band program directors and students Demonstrated understanding of the role of Band that plays within the Music Education experience
