Position Overview
Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) is seeking a Work Readiness Instructor with experience in the unionized trades to help prepare youth and adults for meaningful careers in construction and clean energy. This part-time collaborative role bridges classroom learning with real-world industry expectations working closely with OBTs team to inspire participants and show them what is possible. By sharing lived experience from the trades the instructor will mentor and motivate individuals from underserved communities equipping them with the confidence discipline and vision to thrive in the construction sector.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Deliver and adapt OBTs work readiness curriculum to reflect the realities of construction trades and unionized workplaces incorporating themes such as safety culture teamwork and union values.
Use practical examples case studies and role plays to prepare participants for apprenticeship opportunities while coaching them in communication professionalism and public speaking.
Partner with OBTs Job Developer to align training with industry demands through resume development interview preparation mock interviews and planning for union site visits.
Equip participants with a strong understanding of union structures apprenticeship pathways labor rights and membership responsibilities while also preparing them to navigate the construction sector.
Mentor and inspire youth and adults by sharing lived trade experience modeling discipline and perseverance and offering honest insights into both the challenges and rewards of union careers.
Track attendance monitor participant progress and provide feedback to program leadership to strengthen outcomes and continuously improve curriculum delivery.
Qualifications
Retired or current professional in the unionized trades (required).
Deep understanding of union apprenticeship structures labor culture and building trades careers.
Instruction mentorship or training experience preferred.
Strong communication facilitation and coaching skills.
Commitment to equity diversity and supporting youth and adults from historically excluded communities
