Job Summary

Department Overview

The Student Health & Wellness Center (SHW) seeks a skilled behavioral health provider who can provide excellent clinical care to OHSU students and postdoctoral fellows across the spectrum of developmental and mental health issues. As with all SHW providers this position will: - provide generalist mental health counseling services to OHSU students and postdocs; - identify and educate about resources that promote self awareness wellbeing and personal growth; - employ interventions that are flexible individualized and evidence based. The mission of SHW is to support Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) students postdoctoral fellows and pathway scholars in personal health and well-being during their academic careers at OHSU. We work to provide exceptional and confidential primary and behavioral health care integrative medicine wellness programming suicide prevention and food resource assistance located on the primary OHSU campus on Marquam Hill in Portland Oregon. Function/Duties of Position

The duties of this position include:

  • Provide culturally affirming and responsive therapy to our diverse student population including those that identify with underrepresented racial/ethnic groups LGBTQQAI and students of all abilities. This includes diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning crisis intervention and counseling using individual couple and group modalities. SHW emphasizes short-term duration of counseling but does not have formal session limits.
  • Independently and efficiently manage a large and complex caseload of clients including timely chart completion.
  • Design and implement at least one weeklytherapy orsupport group for students.
  • Serve as part of a team consisting of multidisciplinary mental health professionals (e.g. psychologists psychiatrists LPCsLCSWs LMFTs) primary care team members (e.g. physicians nurse practitioners massage therapists and medical assistants) wellness professionals and vital support staff.
  • Foster strong relationships with student leaders Center for Learner Diversity and Inclusion academic leaders in all schools within OHSU and OHSU student support services to facilitate outreach presentations trainings and overall education about psychology and mental health.
  • Design and deliver outreach programming on mental health topics of interest to students
  • Participate in behavioral health teammeetingswhere wesupport one anotherconsult about challenging cases strategize how to improve access while preventing provider burnout determine criteria for appropriate referrals and partner with our primary care team to provide continuity of care for shared clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) or Masters degree (Licensed Clinical Social Worker Licensed Professional Counselor Licensed Marriage Family Therapist)
  • Training and experience intreating diversepatients including traditionally underservedpopulations andcomprising
    • initial assessment
    • treatment planning
    • individualand group therapy
    • crisis intervention
  • Experience or interest in providing relationship/couples therapy.
  • Strong skills in written and oral communication and ability to communicate across cultures.
  • Extensive and demonstrated experience and strong commitment to cultural humility and cultural awareness. This includes acknowledging and celebrating differences and communicating respectfully regardless of varying beliefs orientations identities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Willingness to design and deliver talks to an academic audience.
  • Training in or exposure to one or more empirically validated treatments such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Motivational Interviewing and/or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. A foundation in modern psychodynamic theory is welcomed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Student Health or Student Counseling setting
  • Experience in collaborating and coordinating care with inter-professional teams
  • Experience and/or ability to lead groups for students that identify with diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated lived experience in Black/African American Latino/Latinae or Native American communities.

Additional Details

Position Conditions:

  • This position will be an unclassified faculty position and the applicant will be required to gain a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at OHSU.
  • The hours of employment are negotiated annually with the Behavioral Health Director or his/her designee. Deviations from the assigned hours though rare may be necessary to ensure adequate care for these patients. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday and there is no on-call or weekend work in this role. Clinicians will be asked to work one evening per week (until 7 pm) to accommodate our students busy schedules.
  • At the request of the Behavioral Health Director or his/her designee the clinician may serve as liaison to other OHSU programs coordinating with SHW.
