Job Description

What We Can Achieve Together:

The Burn Crew Member (BCM) participates in wild land fire operations on TNCs Chattahoochee Fall Line Project area located in west central Georgia which include ignition control mop-up suppression monitoring and other tasks as assigned. As part of the BCMs ongoing professional development they will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire certification addition they shall work to build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and in the local community where the Conservancy works. This may include participation in wild land fire suppression activities in partnership with other non-profits local fire departments and local state and federal agencies tribal or indigenous either as a TNC employee or as a volunteer or short-term employee of the partner entity (such as an administratively determined short term federal employee). They may work in variable weather conditions at remote locations on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.A valid drivers license is required.

Under the guidance of our Fire Management Staff youll assist with prescribed burns ensure safety protocols maintain equipment and operate various machinery such as ATVs UTVs tractors and chainsaws. This role may be exposed to variable weather conditions at remote locations work on difficult hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. As a full-time prescribed fire crew member you will participate in continuous prescribed fire assignments throughout asix-month term beginning January 5 2026 ending June 26 2026.


By joining our Fire Management Team you will be a part of a highly functioning team working together to restore native ecosystems in and around the Chattahoochee Fall Line Ecoregion located in northern Marion County Georgia. Other opportunities may be presented to assist partner agencies such as the US Forest Service at Tuskegee National Forest and Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources (GA-DNR) Wildlife Management Areas (WMA). Our team consists of a dedicated group who are leading the conservation effort on multiple fronts and who expertly bring strategy and action together.


Conservation housing will be provided at The Chattahoochee Fall Line in Mauk GA.

What Youll Bring:

  • High school diploma and 6 months of related experience.

  • Must be qualified as a Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2) including Introduction to ICS (I-100) Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180) Introduction to Wild Land Fire Behavior (S-190) Firefighting Training (S-130) and one training burn serving under the supervision of a qualified FFT2. See achieve a physical fitness standard as determined by local Fire Program Manager and the TNC Fire Manual. Must be able to walk 3 miles in 45 minutes carrying 45lbs.

  • Experience operating various types of equipment.

  • Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid CPR).

  • Ability and willingness to follow instructions from colleagues.

Desired Qualifications

  • Multi-lingual skills and multicultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.

  • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g. Work Excel Web browsers).

  • Communicating clearly via written spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

  • Completion of Wildland Fire Chain Saws (S-212).

Closing date and Project Duration:

  • This job posting will be open until filled.

  • The position will run from January 5 2026 to June 26 2026. Begin and end dates are flexible within the timeframe and maximum 6-month allotment. Preference will be given to applicants for a full 6-month commitment.

    This position requires a valid drivers license and compliance with TNCs Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles rental cars or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered high risk drivers. Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement which may include a review of the prospective employees motor vehicle record.
