Job Summary

The Space Information Analyst is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate space and facilities data for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The Analyst supports campus-wide planning efforts through the analysis of space utilization development of reports and administration of space-related systems and tools. The Analyst works closely with departments and facilities staff to inform strategic decision-making ensure data integrity and align space resources with institutional needs and priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Architecture Facilities Management Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Information Systems or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years in space management data administration or facilities planning.
  • Experience conducting space audits and applying higher education space classification standards.

Relevant combinations of education training and experience may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a higher education or large institutional environment.
  • Familiarity with campus planning tools BIM (Building Information Modeling) or GIS software.
  • Experience interpreting architectural and construction documents related to space design.

Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • High proficiency in AutoCAD Bentley MicroStation Adobe Creative Suite Microsoft Excel and relational databases.
  • Technical proficiency in AutoCAD and space planning software such as FMS:Workplace.
  • Strong understanding of space management principles standards and methodologies including FICM classification standards.
  • Experience working with digital floor plans architectural documents and construction terminology.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into accessible reports and visualizations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Familiarity with space planning building construction and institutional facilities operations.
  • Working knowledge of building codes and institutional space planning standards.

Job Duties

  • Maintain and update the universitys space inventory database floor plans and related documentation using FMS:Workplace AutoCAD Bentley MicroStation and other systems.
  • Ensure consistent formatting standards compliance and data integrity across space records.
  • Support integration of space data with enterprise systems including human resources scheduling asset management and facilities maintenance platforms.
  • Conduct space audits and facilities surveys across campus in accordance with FICM (Facilities Inventory and Classification Manual) standards.
  • Analyze space utilization and prepare recommendations to optimize space allocation and reassignments.
  • Generate data-driven reports dashboards and visualizations to support planning and decision-making.
  • Assist with the development and application of space assignment guidelines and performance metrics.
  • Coordinate with academic and administrative departments to document space needs and usage.
  • Support the review and preliminary analysis of space requests from departments and programs.
  • Provide training and end-user support on space management software and tools.

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving a personal vehicle for non-passenger use

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $75000 - $80000
