Job Description:
Position Summary
The Cost Manager is responsible for leading the plants cost management function ensuring accurate and timely analysis of production costs variances and performance metrics to drive operational and financial efficiency. This role provides leadership to a small cost team partnering closely with Operations Supply Chain Engineering and Finance to support decision-making identify cost savings opportunities and strengthen the plants financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mentor and develop the cost management team to ensure accuracy efficiency and continuous skill growth.
- Oversee preparation and maintenance of standard costs for parts processes and materials used in production.
- Manage variance analysis (materials labor overhead scrap rework etc.) and communicate results with actionable recommendations to plant leadership.
- Partner with operations and engineering leaders to analyze cost drivers monitor KPIs and implement cost-control strategies.
- Drive the cost management process for annual budgets quarterly forecasts and long-range planning.
- Ensure timely and accurate cost reporting for monthly quarterly and year-end financial close.
- Provide leadership in new product launch cost analysis engineering changes and capital investment evaluations.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain to assess supplier cost impacts and identify cost reduction opportunities.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives such as lean manufacturing process optimization and waste elimination.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls corporate policies and external audit requirements related to cost accounting.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Industrial Engineering or related field (MBA or CPA/CMA preferred).
- 57 years of progressive experience in cost accounting financial analysis or operations finance; 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role (preferred).
- Prior experience in automotive manufacturing or a tier-one/tier-two supplier environment strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing cost structures variance analysis and operational finance.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP Oracle QAD or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial data into operational insights.
- Strong business acumen with a results-driven problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
- This role is primarily based in a manufacturing environment and may require occasional travel to support corporate initiatives customers or suppliers.
- Occasional overtime or off-shift support may be required during audits or critical system implementations.
