Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced IoT Architect to conduct a deep architectural audit of our proprietary IoT edge device and the associated cloud infrastructure it directly interacts with. The scope of this engagement centers on our facial recognition scanners which are deployed across venue entry points grab-and-go concession systems and as badge scanners at the Intuit Dome.
The expected outcomes of this Program/initiative:
  • Decreasing latency wherever possible making response times to the end user as fast and lightweight as possible. The role is less about re-inventing the system and more about optimizing and stabilizing the current architecture.
  • This includes identifying inefficiencies streamlining processes and uncovering software hardware and infrastructure issues that may contribute to inconsistent performance.
  • Part of this challenge may involve analyzing and improving the deployment process which has at times led to devices being misconfigured or missing required packages/configurations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Architectural Audit: Conduct a deep dive into the design implementation and performance of our IoT edge device and connected cloud services.
  • Edge Device Review: Assess efficiency of device-side architecture including compute memory and pipeline performance on Jetson-class hardware.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Review: Evaluate backend services APIs and IoT communication patterns (MQTT pub/sub etc.) for scalability security and efficiency.
  • Pipeline Optimization: Review and suggest improvements in camera/video pipelines (gstreamer OpenCV) and NFC implementations (e.g. NXP KL81 EMV Apple Pay Google Pay).
  • Vendor Oversight: Audit work produced by our development vendor providing objective recommendations and highlighting risks inefficiencies or gaps.
  • Technology Guidance: Deliver actionable recommendations for improving device software services architecture and integration patterns.
  • Deployment Review: Evaluate deployment and configuration processes to identify misconfigurations missing packages or process breakdowns that may affect performance.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Present findings and recommendations to leadership in clear concise and actionable formats.
Required Qualifications:
  • IoT Systems Expertise: Proven track record in architecting complex IoT ecosystems (edge cloud integration).
  • Hardware Experience: Hands-on development with Linux-based IoT devices particularly the NVIDIA Jetson line.
  • Pipelines & Vision: Deep expertise with camera/video pipelines (gstreamer OpenCV).
  • NFC & Payments: Strong experience with NFC technologies and protocols particularly NXP KL81 and payments (EMV Apple Pay Google Pay).
  • IoT Protocols: Extensive background in MQTT and other IoT communication frameworks.
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in Rust Golang Angular and other modern development stacks relevant to IoT and cloud systems.
  • Audit/Assessment Skills: Demonstrated ability to review critique and improve vendor-delivered architectures and implementations.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience leading architecture reviews or technology due diligence for startups or enterprise IoT initiatives.
  • Familiarity with secure high-performance edge-to-cloud communication at scale.
  • Strong understanding of containerization orchestration (Docker Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for IoT systems.
  • Ability to quickly produce architectural documentation and recommendations.
Benefits:
