    Job Goal: The School Health Assistant under the direction of the Medical Team provides support planning and documentation in addressing the health needs of students; assisting in implementing the school health program; and providing appropriate care and/or referral for ill medically fragile and/or injured students under the supervision of the medical team. Qualifications:
    1. Must possess a high school diploma; college degree preferred.
    2. Must possess a current Medical Assistant Certification or Certified NursingAssistant Certification
    3. Experience in school nursing or pediatric nursing desired.
    4. Must be certified in CPR and basic First Aid
    5. Requires strong analytical and computer skills excellent interpersonal and organizational skills strong communications skills
    6. Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws rules and regulations as they relate to public health.
    7. Ability to work independently and make decisions in accordance with established policies and regulations.
    8. General knowledge of public health management information systems and how to use them to support the school environment.
    9. Knowledge and practical experience regarding basic computer skills Microsoft Word Access and Excel including MOS Certification as determined by Administration. A willingness to learn and become proficient with all other current district standard software.
    10. Demonstrates interest and participation in a wide range of professional growth opportunities through such activities as advanced coursework in-service programs conference attendance and/or other related activities.
    11. Demonstrates and verifiable record of excellent positive and productive relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds and a commitment to equal opportunity for all.
    12. Such other qualifications as the Board of Education deem acceptable.
    Reports to: District Registered Nurse

    Performance Responsibilities:
    Responsibilities to Students:
    1. Assist with maintenance of annually updated site lists of significant health conditions student exemptions and students receiving medication.
    2. Follow up on health care referrals by Medical Team and assist families in accessing needed services.
    3. Complete screening information and review health information following the guidelines established by the school nurse as required by the state on all special education students Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
    4. Assist with Scoliosis Screening Growth and Development and AIDS education at the designated grade levels.
    5. Reports incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse weapons etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of students and providing a positive learning environment; adhering to applicable laws district policies and procedures.
    6. Adhere to a strong professional ethic and legal requirements for confidentiality regarding students records; discreetly handle sensitive information.
    7. Assist in organizing daily school procedures according to district policy in relation to the distribution of medications and implementation of student health plans.
    8. Perform routine first aid procedures and assist in screening ill or injured children according to established procedures.
    Responsibilities to Staff and District:
    1. As scheduled by central office the medical assistant shall visit each school on a regular basis. This position will require flexibility in schedule in order to meet the needs and demands of the position.
    2. Coordinate with the medical team to implement programs designed to upgrade health standards for students and staff.
    3. Read interpret and follow rules regulations policies and procedures
    4. Complete required state reports on immunizations.
    5. Maintains and updates medical emergency cards and health records for the purpose of providing information required by legal and professional standards.
    6. Maintain and monitor supplies for classroom and field trip first aid kits
    7. Communicates effectively with school nurse staff and parents regarding health care needs and concerns for the purpose of referring students in need of further medical treatment.
    8. Investigate and report as required all communicable diseases such as measles chicken pox etc.
    9. Be aware of and utilize the Clara Manning Sick Fund and the Child Wellness Fund which offers assistance to indigent children in need of medical dental and vision care etc.
    Terms of Employment: 199 days per school year; 30 hours per week
