Summary :

The Athletic Trainer collaborates with physicians to provide preventative services emergency care clinical assessment therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Works under the direction of a physician as prescribed by state licensure statutes. Plans and administers athletic training services for patients of all ages and ethnic origins. Works in a variety of settings including physicians offices rehab clinics hospital clinics schools and industrial or organizational activity settings.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Evaluates initial injury and progresses the patients care across the continuum pre- and post-injury. Creates an individualized holistic plan of care that includes cultural diversity and special needs appropriate to the patient population served. Identifies and coordinates the need and use of appropriate resources to aid in the progression of care. Evaluates and develops a rehabilitation program for the patient monitors progress and transitions the patient back to full activity. Provides referrals to appropriate disciplines as necessary.
  • Recognizes patient and family education needs with regard to the plan of care assesses readiness to learn and organizes and executes an individualized teaching plan. Evaluates learning and works collaboratively with the patient family and care team to develop strategies to meet the learning needs.
  • Performs other clinical and administrative tasks that allow for effective use of resources to best serve the patients needs.
  • Schedules appointments or assists patients with scheduling appointments with providers. Directs referrals and coordinates care between the family and the primary care provider or other care givers. Identifies and explores ways to enhance and increase outreach opportunities in the community to generate revenue through referrals and patient visits at ThedaCare and develops relationships with schools and the community.
  • Documents in the patients chart subjective objective assessment and patient progress notes and plan based upon the injury. Enters referrals into the system typically to a non-surgical musculoskeletal provider or orthopedic surgeon. Maintains various records i.e. injury and rehabilitation equipment issued inventory budget and equipment orders for the purpose of ensuring proper documentation of the nature and extent of injuries in compliance with applicable insurance and statistical guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in athletic training
  • Collegiate rotation with a high school athletic trainer
  • Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA BOC)
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Wisconsin
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move freely (standing stooping walking bending pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Climate: indoor and outdoor event and practice coverage includes work in heat humidity and or inclement weather
  • Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers

Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.
