Job Description
Distinguishing Features of the Class
- Under general supervision to do a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation maintenance and repair of traffic control devices pavement markings and parking meters; to collect money from parking meters.
Performance Examination: Applicants meeting the minimum requirements and the Citys driving standards will be scheduled for a performance examination on October 22nd or October 23rd requiring successful operation of a LineLazer IV and a written examination. Rain dates will be scheduled if needed.

Acceptable Experience and Training
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
- One year experience in on-street pavement marking layout and installation and/or traffic control signage installation and maintenance.
Required Special Qualifications
- Possession of a Class C drivers license.
- If you have an out-of-state drivers license you must submit your certified driving record by the application deadline. Failure to submit all required documentation may cause application disqualification. Certified driving records should be submitted to the City of Des Moines Human Resources Department; electronically to by fax to or by mail to 1551 E MLK Jr Pkwy Des Moines IA 50317.
- Candidates for this position will be required to pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen.
- Possession of a Class C drivers license.
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
- Installs maintains and repairs traffic control signs street name signs informational and warning signs.
- Fabricates sign brackets and special equipment as necessary.
- Lays out and applies pavement markings.
- Installs maintains and repairs parking meters.
- Collects and delivers revenue from meters.
- Attends appropriate training sessions.
- Operates forklifts trucks with accessory equipment compressors paint spray equipment hand and power tools drills augers and welders.
- Performs related work as required.
