Purpose:
Data Science and Analytics is an ambitious team of Data Scientists and Data Engineers with a unique blend of Business Scientific and Machine Learning expertise that seeks to unleash the full potential of AbbVies data assets by bringing technology and/or data and insights to the forefront of decision making via fit-for-purpose solutions. The Staff ML Engineer role is a key technical leadership role to enable application of advanced analytics techniques across clinical development continuum. Partners with Data Scientists and Data Engineers to build and deploy scalable machine learning pipelines. Establishes standards and best practices to ensure consistency.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the Data Scientists and cross-functional data stewards to identify appropriate data sources and to enable streamlined data flow for the Data Science and Analytics capabilities across clinical development and R&D.
- Collaborates across R&D functional areas to link data and key learnings for broad impact on complex cross-functional projects involving multiple scientific and/or clinical discipline and Advanced Analytics methodologies.
- Defines best practices and standards for the development of data products and service processes which perform data transformation metadata extraction workload management and error processing management
- Guide the implementation of standardized automated operational and quality control processes to deliver accurate and timely data and reporting
- Leads functional process improvement initiatives and lessons learned events
- Contributes to the technology strategy and catalyzes the discovery and understanding of new tools and techniques and drive improvements to the data pipeline
- Employs sophisticated analytics programs machine learning and statistical methods to prepare data for use in predictive and prescriptive modeling and other analytics capabilities
- Develop solutions to improve data reliability efficiency and quality. Collaborates with IT and identifies opportunities to future-proof the Analytics infrastructure. Influences future technology investments.
- Ensures adherence to federal regulations and applicable local regulations Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) ICH Guidelines AbbVie Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to functional quality standards. Stays abreast of new and/or evolving local regulations guidelines and policies related to clinical development
- Responsible for coaching and mentoring junior team members. May include indirect supervision of employee and contract staff.
Qualifications :
Qualifications:
- MS or PhD in statistics mathematics computer science or other quantitative disciplines with 6 years of experience
- Experience with informatica tools (PowerCenter Big Data Management Master Data Management) MarkLogic SAS Analytics python R SQL and Amazon Web services preferred
- Profeciency with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java Python Scala C C C# Swift/Objective C or JavaScript
- End-to-end experience with data including querying aggregation analysis and visualization; Fluency in both structured and unstructured data (SQL NOSQL) preferred
- Good communication and presentation skills being able to explain complex problems and the solutions applied and comfortable in presenting technical solutions to a nontechnical audience
- Ability to effectively interact and influence all levels of management in a cross-functional setting
- Biotech / Pharma experience is a plus
- Experience with docker Kubernetes ecosystem ElasticSearch etc. is plus
- Proven leadership traits with ability to lead and inspire staff and to influence others without direct authority.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
