Job Description

The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for Library Technician 3 R0149080.

ROLE of the POSITION

The Law Library Circulation Supervisor is responsible for the management and oversight of all circulation services at the Law Library. This position supervises circulation staff and student employees coordinates daily operations develops and implements circulation policies and ensures excellent service to the Law School community. The Circulation Supervisor plays a critical role in managing physical and electronic course reserves patron records interlibrary loan services and space planning for collections and study rooms. The position also contributes to special projects and works closely with Law Library leadership librarians and other University Libraries units.

Key responsibilities are multifaceted and require a proactive and organized approach:

  • Staff Supervision & Hiring

    • Supervise circulation classified staff and student assistants.

    • Make hiring decisions for circulation student assistants.

    • Establish priorities and assign tasks for circulation staff and student assistants.

  • Circulation & Access Services Management

    • Oversee circulation desk operations including loan rules study room reservations fines and fees and patron record management.

    • Serve as liaison with University Libraries for circulation-related issues and questions.

    • Ensure effective opening and closing of the Law Library and schedule staff coverage for all hours of operation.

    • Coordinate staffing and space use for events held in the Law Library.

  • Collection & Space Oversight

    • Manage e-reserves and physical reserves for Law faculty.

    • Oversee the Law faculty exam collection.

    • Plan and monitor space for physical collections including shelving growth and relocation of materials.

    • Process and track donations including catalog checks and transfer to librarians for review.

    • Manage physical microform collections and train staff in proper filing procedures.

  • Technology & Systems

    • Coordinate circulation staff work in minor cataloging and integrated library system (ILS) tasks.

    • Manage circulation desk team project folders calendars and the study room reservation system.

    • Oversee public computer use policies and computer security systems.

    • Maintain and update circulation policies and facility-use information on the Law Librarys webpages.

  • Data Reporting & Financial Responsibilities

    • Collect and analyze data related to collections facilities and patron use.

    • Manage circulation-related financial transactions including fines fees and book sales.

    • Maintain custodial oversight of circulation cash boxes reconcile receipts and process deposits with the University Cashiers Office.

  • Additional Responsibilities

    • Assist with interlibrary loan services in collaboration with or in the absence of the Library Assistant III.

    • Serve as point of contact for Facilities and external departments regarding space concerns when the Operations Manager is unavailable.

    • Participate in special projects including digitization archives maintenance and other tasks as assigned.

The Wiener-Rogers Law Library is the largest law library in the state. The librarys collections are diverse and represent the interests of a faculty engaged in a wide range of scholarship and committed to service to the community and the profession. The law librarys special collections include a large documentary film collection (nearly 3000 titles) and the archives of the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association. As the only research-level law library in the State of Nevada the law library plays an important role in ensuring access to legal information throughout Nevada.

The William S. Boyd School of Law University of Nevada Las Vegas a public state-supported law school is the only law school in Nevada. The Law School offers day and evening J.D. programs to more than 400 students as well as an LL.M in Gaming Law and Regulation. The law school is recognized nationally for its lawyering process program the Saltman Center for Dispute Resolution and its clinical programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience in a library or other cultural heritage institution including two years of technical level experience performing duties such as copy cataloging acquisitions electronic resource management; and/or organizing curating and accessing government publications; OR one year of experience as a Library Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

SALARY

Grade 31 Step 1 salary $54977.04.

In accordance with Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 284.170 initial appointments to classified positions typically begin at Step 1 of the assigned grade. A Step refers to the specific rate of pay within a grade as determined by the Division of Human Resources.
