The Department of Corrections Division of Institutions is recruiting for multiple Maintenance Generalist Leads for the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Complex(YKCC) located in Bethel Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

This position will perform preventative and non-preventative maintenance also repairs on all buildings plumbing alarm systems electrical/electronic systems and leading an inmate work crew. Will assist in providing a secure safe and fully functional facility for staff and inmates.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

The position requires working in the secure side of the correctional center and interacting with both male & female inmates both sentenced and unsentenced of all custody levels. You will be provided an office within the educational space and will perform direct instruction in classrooms and oversee educational activities in the computer lab.


Who We Are Looking For:

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

  • Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials methods and the tools to construct objects structures and buildings.
  • Carpentry/Woodworking: Knowledge of materials methods and the appropriate tools to construct install finish or repair wooden objects or structures.
  • Plumbing and Pipefitting: Knowledge of materials methods and the appropriate tools to install maintain or repair pipelines pipe systems and fixtures including water air steam gas chemicals or sewage.

Minimum Qualifications

This job class is part of a series of competency based class specifications created for career areas within the Labor Trades and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area the core and specific competencies of the career area required work behaviors certifications and physical requirements. The competency specification for this job class is available at in this job class are filled through Union referral except for promotions demotions transfers and emergency appointments.

EDUCATION

If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications you must fill in the Education section of the application. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. PREA NOTIFICATION

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including but not limited to Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS

Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.


FINGERPRINT NOTICE

All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.


RECRUITMENT DIFFICULTIES

Starting salary may be approved up to Step C - $35.55 if criteria are met.


DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Applicants must possess a valid drivers license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
