Job Description Summary
This student research assistant position is funded by NIH and is a specialized position for 1 year. Undergraduate students from Engineering and Data Sciences interested in working with Stroke patients and having a background in Data Sciences/ Machine Learning or engineering are encouraged to apply. This student research assistant will work primarily at the Rinker Campus for up to 8 hours per week with Soangra who is affiliated with the Fowler School of Engineering and the Department of Physical Therapy. The student research assistant is expected to develop machine learning models and embed models in smartphones develop models for fall classification using sensor and App and collect data from Stroke patients using smartphone sensors. The student research assistant is expected for 1) the creation and interpretation of new knowledge through original research or other advanced scholarship or of a quality to satisfy peer review extend the forefront of the discipline and merit publication; 2) a systematic acquisition and understanding of a substantial body of knowledge which is at the forefront of an academic discipline or an area of professional practice; 3) the general ability to conceptualize design and implement a project for the generation of new knowledge applications or understanding at the forefront of the discipline and to adjust the project design in light of unforeseen problems.
Responsibilities
60% Searching for and reviewing published literature on a research topic Helping to develop a project methodology Assisting with lab work Taking notes Attending team or project meetings Assisting in developing resources for project management Entering and analyzing data Supervising research assistants or other personnel on research-related tasks Assisting with manuscript or grant development Preparing reports or presentations 40% Developing codes and ML models Maintaining Database Collecting pilot data for potential new projects
Required Qualifications
Experience in Machine Learning Experience with Python and MATLAB Passionate about helping Stroke Survivors Demonstrated ability to work independently Highly interested in Biomedical research Must be eligible to work up to 8 hours/week
