This is a full-time permanent position on Crick terms and conditions of employment.

Working pattern: Monday Friday. Hybrid 3 days in the office.

About the role

We are looking for a Grants Manager to join our Grants team at the Francis Crick Institute. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage a portfolio of grant-funded projects with a particular focus on large high-value strategic awards. These include complex coordinator-led initiatives and collaborative partner-based programmes that are critical to the Cricks research objectives.

As Grants Manager you will work closely with the Programme Management Team to ensure the smooth delivery of projects from start to finish. You will provide comprehensive post-award financial and administrative support ensuring Group Leaders and researchers receive timely expert advice. Your responsibilities will span the full grant lifecycle from award acceptance and project setup through financial monitoring and budget management to final claims reconciliation project closure and preparation for both internal and external audits.

Stakeholder engagement is central to this role. You will be the key point of contact for internal and external partners ensuring clear communication and effective coordination across departments and funding bodies. You will regularly review project budgets income and expenditure to ensure accuracy and to identify and address any significant variances such as under- or overspending ineligible costs or issues with overhead recovery.

In addition to managing individual projects you will contribute to the ongoing development of research grant financial administration at the Crick. This includes helping to refine and improve internal systems and processes to ensure continued compliance with institutional and funder requirements. Your input will be instrumental in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our grant management services.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in research grant management especially in academic or research institutes who is looking to make a meaningful impact within a world-leading biomedical research institute.

What you will be doing

As a Grants Manager (Projects) some of your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Be responsible for the post award administrative and financial management of a varied portfolio of research grants and others as required.
  • Support and Partnering to the Programme Management Team Project Managers.
  • Regularly review projects to monitor budgets income and expenditure and ensure early identification of significant variances budget under / overspends ineligible costs overhead recovery etc. Liaise with Group Leaders over any variances and potential financial problems and provide advice on how to resolve. Provide forecasts against funds remaining
  • Provide a single point of contact for internal and external enquiries relating to their portfolio from funders Group Leaders Service Delivery Partners and ensuring that they are recorded and acted upon in a timely and effective manner or escalated as appropriate
  • Work closely with the Human Resources Team with regards to the approval process of staff to individual projects paying particular attention to budget control and compliance to funders terms and conditions.
