Job Summary
Engineering Project Manager Responsibilities:
A growing manufacturer in the defense sector is seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to oversee a dynamic portfolio of engineering initiatives. Based in Southern California this role will lead cross-functional teams to deliver innovative compliant and on-time solutions across R&D production and modernization programs. Ideal candidates bring a background in engineering and proven experience managing complex projects involving defense or aerospace technologies.
- Lead engineering projects from initiation through completion ensuring alignment with organizational goals and customer specifications
- Coordinate with operations quality and program management to meet technical and regulatory standards
- Develop detailed project plans using tools such as MS Project track performance and adjust schedules as needed
- Assign and oversee engineering workloads balancing in-house and outsourced resources to meet deadlines
- Apply technical knowledge in engineering chemistry materials science and physics to solve cross-disciplinary challenges
- Draft and manage project documentation including requirements validation plans SOWs and change management protocols
- Interface directly with customers to ensure project deliverables meet expectations and maintain professional relationships
- Promote continuous improvement using tools like statistical analysis modeling and risk mitigation frameworks
- Mentor junior engineers and team members in project execution and scheduling best practices
- Support innovation initiatives including prototype testing 3D modeling and process automation
Engineering Project Manager Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Business Supply Chain or related technical field (required)
- 5 years of project management experience in engineering environments preferably defense or aerospace
- Strong project planning skills using tools like Microsoft Project and familiarity with earned value management principles
- Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional teams including maintenance safety and environmental support
