About the Unit

7 Heart is a 46-bed stepdown unit that cares for cardio-thoracic patients after surgery. We specialize in both cardiac pulmonary and transplant care. Our primary patient populations are post-operative coronary artery bypass (CABG) cardiac valve surgeries lung surgeries heart and lung transplant and VAD patients (an artificial heart pump). We admit post-surgical patients day of surgery after the cardiovascular recovery unit or from the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTCC) depending on their procedure and clinical needs. If a patient needs intensive care they are transferred to CTCC and return to us when their condition has stabilized. Our patients are very complex and require medical physical and emotional support.

Scope of Work

The Unit Secretary is the go to on each unit for clerical support. Responsibilities include taking phone calls helping with directions to all visitors or outside team members to the unit (lab radiology patient transport nutrition services environmental services) calling support when directed by clinical staff assisting with discharge admit and transfer paperwork ordering supplies ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked answering call lights for any non-direct patient care needs etc.

The Unit Secretary role is a very fast-paced role requiring strong communication skills the ability to prioritize and multitask. You will often be tasked with multiple requests by various teammates and clear communication and prioritization of your responsibilities will be necessary.

Core Schedule

7am-7:30pm shifts will follow this pattern after the initial weeks of orientation are completed successfully.

Required Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of relevant experience preferred
