Overview

As the Senior Staff Software Engineer for Scout Motors Engineer for Scout Motors digital products you will be responsible for leading a team of highly skilled software engineers and driving the development of digital solutions for our customers and business partners. Some of the key products as part of digital portfolio are order management customer management marketing production inventory and planning optimization loyalty merchandise servicing and repairs mobile apps vehicle connectivity and more. You will work with engineering managers senior engineers and cross-functional partners to design the technical underpinnings of the product. At the same time youll have plenty of opportunities to be hands-on building key systems and will be directly responsible for the successful delivery of complex and large-scale technical efforts as well acting as a technical mentor and leader for other engineers.

What youll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

• Architect design and develop scalable and performant React Native mobile applications that works seamlessly in Android and iOS
• Define and drive implementation of best practices in mobile development including accessibility security testing performance scaling and maintainability
• Lead and mentor engineers across multiple squads fostering growth and raising the technical bar for mobile app development
• Work with Product and Design teams to deliver seamless and pixel perfect user experiences while balancing technical feasibility and scalability
• Make critical decisions on frameworks tooling and component architecture to support long-term code health and efficiency
• Lead the technical roadmap ensure alignment with business goals and guide major initiatives from concept to launch
• Collaborate with backend and platform engineers to ensure smooth integration and consistency across the digital stack
• Be a hands-on contributor while influencing engineering culture and processes across the team

Location & Travel Expectations:

• This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location Fremont California.
• The responsibilities of this role require 1 day per weekattendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
• Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

• Education/Certifications: A Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
• Years of Experience: 10 years in software development and experience with scaling software products (with at least 6 years specific to mobile development) and 5 years in technical leadership roles focused on mobile app development preferably with cross-platform apps using React Native
• Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Deep expertise with mobile app development languages (Java/Kotlin Objective C/Swift and React Native) with experience using NodeJS and TypeScript
• Proven ability to define and drive the architectural direction for large-scale applications with extensive experience building complex applications that consume CRUD operations in GraphQL RESTful and/or RPC APIsensuring long-term scalability maintainability and performance
• Deep knowledge of UI/UX design principles mobile-first design performance optimization and a desire to create pixel perfect layouts
• Deep understanding and practical experience in identifying mitigating and preventing common security and sensitive information vulnerabilities like Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) deep linking vulnerability network and API security SQL injection). This includes a strong command of security best practices secure coding principles and experience integrating security into the development lifecycle.
• Experience interfacing with an IAM / SSO system like Azure Okta or Auth0
• Exposure to analytics experimentation platforms and feature flagging tools.
• Deep understanding of robust branching strategies CI/CD pipelines automated testing tools/frameworks (Appium Jest Karma Playwright) and cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• Significant contribution to technical roadmaps and strategic planning ensuring mobile app initiatives align with overall business objectives and technology vision.
• Experience operating in start-up settings launching 0 to 1 product
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a passion for finding elegant solutions to complex challenges
• Optional:
  • Prior experience working experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment
  • Familiarity with: AWS systems
  • An understanding of: full-stack development specifically backend services

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidates skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial California base salary range $220000.00 - $242000.00
