The Principal Medical Science Liaison is a field-based member of the Medical Affairs team who serves as a strategic link between Alcon and Medical Experts (ME)/Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in the field of Ophthalmology and Optometry.
In this role a typical day will include:
- Planning and executing clinical trials/research and data collection activities
- Contributing to implementation of clinical protocols and facilitating completion of final reports
- Recruiting clinical investigators and negotiating study design and costs
- Directing human clinical trials phases III and IV for company products under development
- Participating in adverse event reporting and safety responsibilities monitoring
- Coordinating and providing reporting information for reports submitted to regulatory agencies
- Monitoring adherence to protocols and determining study completion
- Coordinating and overseeing investigator initiations and group studies
- Serving as medical consultant to marketing commercial or research project teams and government regulatory agencies
- Signing off on product safety reviews
- In some organizations may participate in adverse event reporting and safety responsibilities monitoring. May act as consultant/liaison with other corporations when working under licensing agreements
WHAT YOULL BRING TO ALCON:
- Education/ExperienceOD/MD/DO/MBBS /PhD/PharmD/Advanced Degree in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
- Languages: Fluency in English essentialKnowledge/Fluency of at least one other international area language preferred
- Experience: Advanced knowledge of eye diseases including ophthalmic surgical procedures and optometry.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry field (academia industry clinical practice) with at least 2 of those in the ophthalmic industry or clinical practice.
- Experience in a HCP-facing role. Working knowledge of the Healthcare System and of the research procedures as well as the ICH guidelines GCP and other ethical guidelines.
- Essential knowledge of clinical trial design product development regulatory requirements payer landscape and life cycle management.
- Experience in scientific presentations and basic experience in medical writing and biostatistics.
- Proven ability and experience to develop and foster peer-to-peer credible relationships with Medical Experts/decision makers.
