Qualifications and requirements
A Medical Assistant (MA) who excels in this role:
- Assists with performing patient assessments and treatments under the supervision of a provider or nurse.
- Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection. Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition. Documents patient care given.
- Maintains equipment and medical supplies including reordering stocking cleaning and troubleshooting. Maintains examination areas.
- Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned including filing reception scheduling data entry and patient registration.
- Administers patient injections and takes patients vitals.
- Obtains authorization for consults referrals and procedures and ABNs per policies.
- Evaluates chart documentation for coding purposes applies official guidelines and determines and applies appropriate codes. Document all charges on fee ticket to ensure 100% capture of all charges.
