Description
The purpose of this position is to have available on a 24 hour basis a person specifically trained to respond to emergency situations involving fire medical emergencies hazardous materials or special rescues and to provide support for fire prevention efforts. This position is responsible to perform job duties in an accurate manner in order to protect the life and property of the citizens of the City of Springdale.
Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:This position is classified as safety/security sensitive under the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is therefore subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
To apply all interested candidates must:
- Submit a completed City of Springdale application.
- Register for a FireTEAM test through the National Testing Network (NTN) at During the registration process select Springdale Fire Department to receive your test results.
- Successfully pass a certified IAFF/IAFC CPAT exam and upload your card to your application. CPAT results are good for one year and must be current at the time of hire. Job Duties
- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers; maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team) and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Provide medical treatment and transport for injured citizens.
- Ensure proper supplies are available and ambulance is service ready.
- Administer BLS level medications to patients as needed.
- Emergency response for fire suppression EMS Hazmat and other forms of special rescues.
- Provide fire suppression in all types of fire situations.
- Perform search and rescue operations at fires to locate and remove victims.
- Perform ventilation operations at fires to remove smoke and heat from structures.
- Participate in training classes and drills to maintain and enhance firefighting and EMS skills.
- Public education and fire safety education with children adults and schools.
- Clean and maintain station and equipment.
- Personal company and department training.
- Regularly participates in either group or self-directed physical fitness activities during duty hours.
- Conduct pre-fire plans and inspections with local businesses and establishments.
- Back-up driver.
- Assist Driver/Operator with truck and equipment checks daily and perform hose and pump testing annually.
- Perform recordkeeping.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED plus specialized training and/or additional college courses and 12-18 months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid Drivers License.
- Have or be able to obtain Firefighter I & II Standards Certificate Arkansas EMT Certificate Hazardous Material Operations Level CPR obtain NIMS ICS 100 and 700 certification.
- Regular use of highly complex machines and fire equipment; specialized life sustaining equipment.
- Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects.
- Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
Supplemental Information
Must successfully pass criminal background check including but not limited to convictions guilty pleas or no contest pleas to violent offenses theft offenses and offenses against children.
