Job Description

Civil Engineer Co-Op - Spring 2026 (Jan - May)
Burr Ridge IL


Our Civil Engineering team is excited to add a student for the Spring semester. You will work alongside talented and knowledgeable civil engineers who are registered in several states who will help kickstart your career in a dynamic and people-centered AE (architectural & engineering) consulting firm. If you enjoy the design aspect of Civil Engineering for industrial spaces or have an interest in learning about it this role is a great fit for you.
Responsibilities
  • Assists in gathering field dataand capital cost estimating when needed
  • With supervision uses design criteria document(s) to meet the project objectives
  • Ensures quality and technical accuracy of assigned deliverables
  • Follows the BSI Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards
  • With supervision performs necessary calculations and design effort to prepare deliverables
  • Coordinates work with civil associates on a project
  • Meets individual schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
  • Designof earthwork pavement underground utilities storm water management erosion control methodologies
  • With supervision selects appropriate construction materials
  • With supervision participates in construction support startup and commissioning efforts
  • Interfaces with other design discipline counterparts and project management as needed
  • Occasionally interfaces with local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for permitting coordination
  • Occasionally interfaces with outside consultants and contractors (geotechnical engineers surveyors construction contractors)
  • Learning the role of other disciplines and overall project requirements during the project lifecycle
  • With supervision may participate in multi-discipline squad checks of deliverables before issuance
  • Identifies and communicates scope change for discipline
  • Continually communicates their individual forecasted staffing requirements for their assigned projects
Requirements
  • Pursuing a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering
  • Completed at least 4 semesters of related engineering courses
  • Prior co-op experience preferred
  • Developing written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong ability to analyze and critically assess problems
  • Understanding civil engineering concepts and principles and gaining familiarity with all necessary codes
  • Gaining knowledge of construction materials construction methods and industry standards
  • Gaining civil design experience including storm water analysis underground utility and three-dimensional modeling.
Hourly Rate:$17.50 - $22/hr. based on previous experience and college semesters completed
