The Department of Environmental Services Wastewater Treatment & Disposal Division is looking for dedicated professionals to join our team as Wastewater Plant Maintenance Mechanicsat our facilities inHonolulu Ewa Beach and Kailua. Our wastewater systems are essential to everyday life and when they run smoothly no one notices; but when they dont the impact is immediate. Thats where you come in.

What Youll Do
  • Perform major overhaul and repair work to equipment installed at wastewater and storm drain pumping stations and wastewater treatment plants field installations and tunnels.
  • Install new and repair piping systems valves and fittings of all sizes and material (brass steel cast iron copper plastic etc.) for water air wastewater chemicals fuels and sludge.
  • Overhaul repair test and operate a variety of mobile and portable equipment used for emergency purposes and for construction and repair services such as air compressors blowers generators steam cleaners and welding equipment.
  • Make repairs or renovations to buildings and structures.
  • Install align test adjust and calibrate new equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Special Work Requirements
  • Exposure to high speed rotating machinery and other electrical equipment machinery and instruments utilizing dangerous voltages which range from 115 to 11000 volts.
  • Exposure to depths heights deadly wastewater gases asphyxiation and contamination from disease bearing wastewater.
  • May work alone at night holidays and weekends as required.
  • Works in unfavorable obnoxious filthy and hazardous surroundings.
  • On-call 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position or which show equivalent competence in the operation maintenance and repair of large pumping or treatment plant power plants marine engine room or related industrial type equipment.

Such experience must have demonstrated:

  • Knowledge of the types and functions of machinery and equipment used in sewage pumping stations and treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used in the operation of pumping and treatment plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of elementary electricity and hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines.
  • Knowledge of tools equipment materials and practices used in the installation overhaul and repair of a variety of sewage pumping and treatment plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of uses of tools materials and equipment and the terminology and skills used by various specialized trades in mechanical repair work and in a machine and welding shop.
  • Ability to use a variety of machinists and mechanics hand tools equipment and shop machinery such as drill presses metal shapers welding and cutting equipment lathes etc.
  • Ability to install overhaul repair and test a variety of wastewater pumping and treatment plant equipment and make repairs quickly and effectively.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Valid drivers license (Type 3/automobile) prior to appointment.
