  • Partner with HR and leadership teams to develop forward-thinking labor relations strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with HR and business leaders to proactively address employee and labor relations including grievances arbitrations and union-related activities.
  • Oversee company responses to collective bargaining unemployment insurance workers compensation and other employee relations matters including working with external counsel and representing the company in mediations and negotiations.
  • Lead or oversee sensitive workplace investigations providing recommendations documentation and resolution strategies.
  • Manage responses to federal and state agency investigations (EEOC DOL OSHA NLRB) including drafting position statements and preparing witnesses.
  • Contribute to designing and advising on company-wide employment policies and compliance initiatives; deliver training for HR and business leaders.
  • Develop proactive labor relations strategies to support collective bargaining efforts and advise on union-related matters.
  • Manage external counsel relationships budget and performance to align with business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state (Michigan preferred but not required).
  • 7 years of substantive business law experience with a corporate legal department or reputable law firm.
  • Expertise in labor and employment law including union relations and HR compliance.
  • Experience in automotive or manufacturing industries preferred.
  • Experience with industrial unions strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate compliance safety and environmental issues.
  • Excellent analytical communication research and writing skills.
