Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Intern Automation Engineering for Summer 2026. The position is based in Pittsburgh PA.

Accountabilities:

Assist in the development and testing - in accordance with Automation needs and principle - of assigned SW module as part of Automation Software platform

Assist in the first implementation/release of platform single components/tools according to projects requirements and roadmaps

Support the proper requirements management for all the phases of the product/ software lifecycle according to company standard processes (IMS).

Contribute to the correct development of specific SW components in compliance with Automation needs and principle

Participate to the identification of technologies relevant for automation products development

Participate to the issuing of projects documentation

Assist in the first implementation/release of platform single components/tools according to projects requirements and roadmaps

Required Skills/ Knowledge:

• Fundamental knowledge of Linux or UNIX operating system
• Familiarity with basic networking concepts
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Microsoft Windows operating system education/experience
• Microsoft Office EXCEL and WORD education/experience

Desired Skills/ Knowledge:

• Knowledge/Working experience with scripting languages (for example Python)

Education / Qualifications:

• Current Engineering student at a 4-year university with a graduation date between December 2026 and December 2027.

In accordance with the DOTs FRA and FTA programs Hitachis substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees as required for safety-sensitive positions.
