Aging and People with Disabilities (APD) part of the Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual for an Adult Protective Service Specialist in The Dalles office.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

This position will provide adult protective services to vulnerable adults who are elderly or disabled. The Adult Protective Service Specialist receives referrals determines the need for and investigates alleged incidents of adult abuse or neglect. Situations may involve physical abuse neglect and abandonment sexual abuse psychological and verbal abuse financial exploitation and other type of self-neglect. Conducts investigations and completes reports timely.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelors Degree in the human social behavioral or criminal sciences and two years human service law enforcement or investigative experience;

OR

an Associates Degree in the human social behavioral or criminal sciences and four years human service law enforcement or investigative experience


Three years professional level experience related to the position may substitute for the Bachelors degree; 18 months for an Associates.

  • Experience communication and problem solving in a complex situation to reach an agreed upon resolution.

  • Experience interpreting and explaining rules and/or regulations.

  • Experience working with difficult clients and/or customer in challenging situations.

  • Experience interviewing people to gather information.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must have a drivers license and acceptable driving record in order to drive to and meet individuals in their own homes other community settings nursing homes hospitals or other care settings. May involve driving in inclement conditions. Potential exposure to illness and disease through direct contact with clients. May be exposed to unsanitary conditions. Work closely with individuals who may have difficulty receiving processing or verbalizing information necessary to make informed choices and decisions.
