Job Summary
Newburyport Public Schools seeks an energetic compassionate and innovative educator to join our dynamic English Language Learner Education team. Under general supervision English as a Second Language Teacher also known as the ELL Teacher serves as an instructional specialist for multilingual students who are learning English as a second language. The ELL teacher works in a program designed to provide direct English Language Development instruction in co-taught content classrooms small groups and individual student addition to this explicit ELL instruction the ELL teacher provides in-class linguistic support and assists general education classroom teachers with selection of appropriate curricula and the development of appropriate strategies to meet the unique needs of English Language learners. Assist in developing a sequential ELL curriculum with Director of ELL and school principals. Design ELL instructional differentiation and accommodations for students to ensure they are mastering content and language skillsDetermine ELL Program eligibilityReview annually ELL curriculum guidelines with Director of ELLInstruct LEP students individually or in groups in language activities that allows for full access to the core curriculum Recommend appropriate modifications to classroom teachersWrite and distribute all ELL student assessment reports to classroom teachers and parentsMaintain all records as required for state and federal reportsAdministers ACCESS WIDA screener and the W-APT Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by the Director ELL or Coordinator of the EL DepartmentEqual Opportunity EmployerNewburyport Public Schools does not discriminate in its programs activities or employment practices based on race color national origin age religion gender gender identity sexual orientation or disability.
