Job Summary
POSITION:Kindergarten Teacher (One Year Only)LOCATION:Pell ElementaryREPORTS TO:Building PrincipalSCHOOL YEAR:2025/2026JOB DESCRIPTION: To create flexible elementary grade programs and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students; to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education in accordance with each students ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:Must hold a valid RI Certification: Early Childhood Education Teacher Grades Pre-K-2; Elementary Certification K-6Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student;Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process;Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work education experience teaching educational experience and the interview process;Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and completion of the Science of Reading TrainingRESPONSIBILITIES:Provides learning experiences in reading language arts pre-reading arithmetic science art health physical education and music to students utilizing courses of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities;Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction;Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom;Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports;Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the school program;Identifies students needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems;Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays bulletin boards and interest centers;Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities;Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides maintains required inventory records;Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day;Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program;Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom;Participates in curriculum development programs as required;Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities;Performs such other duties as assigned by the principal and/or OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified 02/07/2025Applicants are not to approach members of the Newport School Committee.
