Normal Work Schedule:Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm; some shift work & extended hours

Job Summary:The Plumber Utility Mechanic I assists in the fabrication installation maintenance and repair of heating plumbing mechanical piping systems structural steel package boiler equipment and water treatment kitchen equipment auxiliary equipment steam water gas systems and other building mechanical equipment; auxiliary equipment steam water sewers both sanitary and storm irrigation systems gas and air systems and other building mechanical equipment; above and underground steam domestic water HVAC (chilled and hot water) sanitary and storm distribution systems; firing tending and maintaining pressure boilers to supply heat for buildings and domestic hot water. Drives from site to site.

Required Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of plumbing pipefitting structural steel (iron worker) boilermaker millwright boiler tender steamfitter or sprinkler fitter experience. Must have valid U.S. drivers license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge: Abilityto lift handle and maneuver the tools materials and supplies of the job. Ability to read interpret and troubleshoot blueprints drawings manuals maps schematics and plans. Ability to do material takeoffs. Good people skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Good communications skills both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:State of Alabama Journeyman Plumbers License or Alabama Master Plumbers License. Welding experience.
