ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting biological and chemical analyses of blood urine and other human bodily fluids or substances.
- Ensures proper operation of analyzers spectrophotometers colorimeters centrifuges ovens water baths liquid chromatographs mass spectrophotometers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturers instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting analyzing and summarizing information. Participates in Proficiency Testing of unknown samples according to Laboratorys policy for testing survey samples.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Maintains required licensing with governing bodies if applicable.
- Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish patient testing results.
- Provides medical technology information by answering questions and requests from providers and other clinic staff members.
- Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures rules and regulations.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; follows patient identification procedures.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
- Adheres to HIPPA and PPE Policies and Office Rules (Maintains patient confidentiality and protects the clinic by keeping private information confidential.)
EDUCATION
- Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or Chemistry/Biological Sciences
EXPERIENCE
- Experience working in a clinical laboratory setting
- Familiarity with Scientific Techniques and Clinical Laboratory Testing Analysis
- Experience in toxicology highly preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
- National Certification as Clinical Laboratory Scientist preferred but not required
KNOWLEDGE
- Possesses knowledge and understanding of and demonstrates compliance with state and Federal laboratory regulations.
SKILLS
- Possesses mechanical skills and deductive reasoning to enable troubleshooting and maintenance of test systems.
ABILITIES
- Ability to organize laboratory logs to correctly document laboratory information/readings and to prioritize work assignments
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with lab staff and others
- Ability to accurately analyze test results and use judgement in interpretation of testing to assure tests are working properly.
- Ability and willingness to maintain strict level of confidentiality regarding laboratory results and records
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Laboratory setting may include loud repetitive noises and temperature extremes suitable for instrumentation to function at peak performance.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
- Must adhere to demands for timely reporting of test results.
