Job Summary
The Director of Student Engagement and Leadership will be responsible for developing implementing and overseeing programs and initiatives that promote student involvement leadership development and campus engagement. This role aims to foster a vibrant campus community where students are empowered to develop leadership skills engage in meaningful extracurricular activities and contribute positively to campus life. The director will provide general oversight and direct supervision of the Student Activities Office and staff.
Essential Functions
Utilize relevant research and evidence-based practices for creating positive individual and environmental outcomes for students as well as developing student learning outcomes for the programs developed Monitor and assess the effectiveness of student engagement programs and leadership initiatives. Use data-driven approaches to improve services and demonstrate impact Direct the management and implementation of leadership and career readiness programs for the Midland College student body in the areas of critical thinking communication organizational management resume writing interview skills and teamwork Manage Student Center including the current Career & Transfer Center and lounge eating area in conjunction with Student Life team members Oversee New Student Orientation and Homecoming work with departments to facilitate presenters participants and content Oversee the Career Fair work with community partners to facilitate participants and campus departments Maximize use of career exploration software (Vita Navis) and communicate available job postings to appropriate department chairs Aid in the planning and growth of the leadership series on campus incorporating Career Readiness and Leadership development content for students Plan provide and obtain approval for student activities (including maintenance of a calendar of events) approval of student travel and provide campus-wide advertisement of activities Supervise the Student Activities staff to provide a robust and diverse range of activities suitable for a diverse student population including but not limited to traditional events cultural and heritage events and social and recreational programming Use a wide range of accessible media including educational technologies electronic and web-based programs and social media (Facebook Instagram Twitter) to create develop and promote student participation in health education and promotion programs Develop activities to engage commuter and online students Serve as advisor to the Student Government Association Work collaboratively with faculty staff and external partners to create opportunities for student involvement leadership and civic engagement Respect and maintain the confidentiality of all students and staff and all student and staff records Work effectively both autonomously and as a team member Some travel may be required Fiscal management of the budgets Participate in continuing education professional and personal development opportunities Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive from office to other locations on and off campus This position may require occasional travel for training meetings and events both in and out of town Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds Duties indoors and some outdoors Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree; or Associates Degree (or equivalent 60 college credit hours) and a minimum of three years of relevant experience that includes demonstrated work experience with detail-oriented tasks of a significant nature Strong organization planning and managerial skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate student engagement programs Experience advising student organizations and managing programs or events Interpersonal skills with a demonstrated record of successful work with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels both inside and outside a higher education setting Ability to exercise initiative and work independently Track collect and synthesize data in spreadsheets and report formats Use tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality Strong commitment to teamwork and student support Computer literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Must possess a valid Texas Drivers license good driving record and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
Significant experience working in student affairs student activities event planning counseling students leadership or a closely related field Management and supervisory experience Masters Degree in a Student Affairs Higher Education Counseling or business-related field
