Job Summary
The Plumber III will perform Journeyman level skills in the installation maintenance remodeling repair and servicing of plumbing systems and utilities in a mechanical utility distribution system. Responsible for the prompt performance of assigned plumbing and related duties and mechanical maintenance and repair of utility mains. Frequently responsible for supervision of semi-skilled or unskilled workers.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Install repair and replace: waterlines air lines gas lines sewer lines sump pumps sewer injectors domestic water pumps water heaters piping traps valves vents washbowls sinks toilet fixtures fittings faucets drains special laboratory sinks drain tables experimental tables and associated underground utilities. Unstop clogged lines. Cut and thread steel pipe and solder or braze copper pipe. Connect and maintain hot water units and gas heaters and check for safety. Complete annual gas line testing and inspections. Assist with simple estimates of time and materials required for a job. Pick up materials and supplies from vendors. Assist other OFM shops and University departments. Responds to on-call emergencies before/during/after normal hours of operation. This includes but not limited to: fires electrical outages floods icy conditions and any other type of campus emergency. Attends shop staff meetings as required. Attends safety training or meetings. Perform related duties as assign by the maintenance supervisor or any other superior. Drive a UTA owned vehicle. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D. Three (3) or more years of skilled journeyman-level plumbing or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role. State of Texas Journeyman License required. A valid Texas drivers license with a three (3) year driving history. Proficiency in oral and written communication in English.
Preferred Qualifications
State of Texas Backflow Prevention Tester Certification required. Professional experience operating a backhoe and heavy equipment. Professional experience to assess plumbing issues and determine the correct course of corrective action.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm. Occasionally work before/during/after normal operating hours. Must be able to respond to emergency calls which can include fires electrical outages floods and icy conditions.
