A Day in the Life

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
In this role as a Development Engineering Manager youll be responsible for managing developing and mentoring Digital Health Home Dev team (Software & Hardware Engineering) in Acute Care & Monitoring OU with a strong focus on driving engineering maturity across Digital Health Home custom hardware- browser- mobile- and services-based product portfolio.

Technical Manager position reporting to R&D Engineering Director


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and mentor the product engineering team ensuring code deliverables are being completed on time to the highest quality possible.
Drive continuous product quality through unit test automation and coverage maturity across the portfolio helping identify and resolve technical and process issues.
Take ownership of not releasing defects to customers and be willing say no this is not ready for release.
Develop and establish code quality metrics including security standards for new development and enhancements.
Use appropriate tools and practices to drive release quality (functional and non-functional) to ensure product specifications are met/maintained.
Drive architectural design patterns vocabulary conduct periodic code reviews to ensure that design best practices are followed at all times.
Demonstrate a team orientation by building rapport with management peers and senior leadership.
Understand business roadmap and drive technology roadmap leveraging appropriate testing practices and tooling.
Contribute to a team culture by demonstrating a positive attitude team-oriented approach leadership qualities and openness to learning and feedback.
Participate in Agile sprint planning daily standup demo and retrospective meetings as needed


EDUCATION REQUIRED:
B.S. in Computer Science Engineering Information Systems or Software Engineering or Software Development degree program or comparable on the job experience with another B.S. degree.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
5 years of hands-on experience developing and testing browser-based web applications native Android or iOS mobile applications with service-based architectures in medium to large scale enterprises
3 years managing geographically distributed development teams with focus on building high performing teams


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
5 years development experience for web-based applications or Java enterprise technologies in on-premise or AWS
5 years development experience developing enterprise applications using SQL Server or similar relational database technologies. Familiarity with non-relational database technologies
5 years development experience for Android or iOS mobile applications
3 years experience working in GitLab or similar source repository Jira or similar Agile ALM tools
Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery tools like Jenkins Octopus Deploy
Solid understanding of the full software development life cycle with an automation and secure by design development focus
Experience creating design and release documentation for medical device or non-medical device product releases

Demonstrated experience leading software teams using Agile delivery models through testing maturity including adopting agile architecture continuous integration and delivery best practices.
Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams in customer facing product portfolios.
Ability to interface with all groups and levels to solve problems and create solutions
High level of verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Experience developing custom hardware and firmware solutions in MedTech industry involving Bluetooth communication protocols for peripheral integrations
Experience building enterprise scale solutions or managing teams delivering enterprise scale solutions in AWS

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans directs and implements all aspects of the companys design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
  • May develop evaluate implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials techniques or company products.
  • Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
  • Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies materials machines processes or products.
  • Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
  • Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
  • Selects develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONAL CAREER STREAM:Management and supervisory professionals with one or more employees who are focused on tactical operational and some strategic activities within a specified area. Leadership and Talent Management:Manages a team consisting of supervisors and / or experienced professionals in the Specialist career stream.
Leads directs and reviews the work of a team who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments.
Authorizes hiring firing promotion and reward within own area.

Required Knowledge and Experience:Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes projects and tactics within one job area.
Typically has advanced knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organization.
Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 5 years relevant experience or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$140800.00 - $211200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
