Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer the Director Human Resources provides broad human resources advice and support related to human resources policies procedures and practices to their direct reports and the management team within MHNL Operations to which the HR team provides support. Responsible for participating in all facets of human resource management including but not limited to human resources planning labor relations including union negotiations grievance management and administration of the collective agreements recruiting and staffing employee relations job classification and evaluation employment equity workplace health and safety employee wellness and workforce realignment and re-deployment. This position will provide human resources leadership and overall support to merger and acquisition related activities including organizational design and development employee onboarding/offboarding and other related requirements. A major component of this position is the establishment of leadership expertise and trust within the HR Department all levels of management and employees in a positive and optimistic manner. The attainment of credibility is critical. This role must also demonstrate create and foster a team approach within the HR department. This is achieved by your ability to build and foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in particular government and unions by demonstrating technical and professional expertise.

Professional Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelors degree in human resources business or related discipline.

  • Ten years experience in a leadership capacity preferably in a unionized environment including five years in management with significant depth across the various HR functional disciplines and proven ability to lead a team of HR specialists.

  • Extensive experience creating HR processes practices and policies to support high growth operational organizations.

  • Sound business judgment coupled with dispute resolution and negotiating skills.

  • Strong analytical problem solving project management and organizational abilities.

  • Extensive knowledge of local and federal labor law.

  • Excellent interpersonal presentation and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and formal knowledge of other business functions are necessary.

  • Always conduct business with the highest standards of personal professional and ethical conduct.

  • Able to work both independently and as part of a management team.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence advise and build trust with various stakeholders.
