Department Overview

Proudly serving as Minnesotas childrens hospital since 1924 Childrens Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is the eighth-largest pediatric health care organization in the U.S. Each year Childrens provides care through nearly 13000 inpatient visits and more than 200000 emergency room and other outpatient visits. An independent not-for-profit health care provider Childrens has 319 staffed hospital beds and services available in all major pediatric specialties: emergency care; newborn and pediatric intensive care; outpatient and inpatient surgery; diagnostic services including radiology and laboratory; and special programs in the areas of respiratory cardiology cancer premature birth adolescent development child abuse and addition to our Minneapolis and St. Paul Campuses Childrens also includes Childrens West a pediatric care center in Minnetonka offering same-day surgery as well as diagnostic rehabilitative and developmental outpatient services; Childrens - Roseville an outpatient pediatric rehabilitation center; and Childrens Clinics - Woodwinds pediatric specialty clinics at the Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury.


Position Summary

The Security Officer position is responsible for the day to day activities of ensuring safe and secure Childrens campuses for the ambulatory and business locations. The officer will maintain a safe environment through routine patrols of the facilities grounds outlying buildings. The officer will respond to all calls both emergency and non-emergency as they occur or in order of importance helping coordinate with police fire and EMS. The officer will monitor alarms CCTV and access control systems. This position will conduct security stands for patients and families at any off-site location as needed.

Location: Onsite

Education:
*High school diploma or equivalent required
*Bachelors or Associates Degree in Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Business Psychology or Sociology preferred

Experience:
*Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation intervention detainment of suspects reporting and investigating incidents and enforcing organizational policy preferred.
*Prior security experience preferred.
*Administrative professional experience preferred.

License/Certification:
*Certified Protection Professional (CPP) Physical Security Professional (PSP) Certified Forensic Interview (CFI) Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) a plus
*Must possess a valid drivers license (must meet minimum criteria of Childrens Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy)
*Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS)
*Must complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire
*Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
*Ability to work independently and as a team.
*Ability to retain knowledge information and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.
*Ability to comprehend numerous policies procedures concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
*Ability to maintain accurate records.
*Must be customer service oriented.
*Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred.
*Ability to walk and climb stairs.
*Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
*Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
*Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
*Ability to detect irregularities such as security breaches facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.
*Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders such as police fire and/or ambulance personnel as required.
*Ability to restrain or subdue an individual.
*Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
*Ability to proficiently utilize detaining and apprehension tools as directed.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role the skills education training credentials and experience of the candidate internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary this position may be eligible for medical dental vision retirement and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
