The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking a cybersecurity professional with strong critical thinking initiative and communication for the Information Systems Security Engineer position.
The Information Systems Security Engineer implements assesses and monitors security measures for the protection of information technology systems networks servers and other information.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
Information security software programs and tools
Information security issues requirements and trends including compliance requirements related to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and e-Discovery
Information security laws and regulations
Risk assessment methods and techniques
Incident response procedures and processes
Malware such as worms viruses spyware ransomware and Trojans
Security software programs and tools
Basic server and network technologies
Cloud computing environments system and network security authentication and security protocols and cryptography
Application architecture and design development environments database design and normalization network security and infrastructure
Authentication authorization and encryption technologies
Industry-standard tools and frameworks used in penetration testing such as Metasploit Burp Suite Nmap Kali Linux and other tools
Forensic techniques for investigating incidents
Auditing standards and techniques

Required Education and ExperienceEducation:An associates degree in computer science business administration or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience:Two years of experience implementing and monitoring information technology security solutions and programs including one year of performing risk assessments using penetration and vulnerability testing tools.
Two years of experience as an Information Systems Security Specialist at the Los Angeles County Office of Education may substitute for the required experience.
Equivalency Provision:Current professional certification in one of the following may substitute for the associates degree: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) or equivalent.
Additional Requirements:A valid California drivers license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites is required. Professional certification in one of the following is preferred: Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) EC-Council Certified Security Analyst (ECSA) Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA) GIAC Security Essentials Certification (SEC) or equivalent.
Hybrid remote schedules may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff LACOE may require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19.
Selection ProcessCandidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a technical interview.
